Carvel Property Development — Site Sustainability

Natural Systems Utilities’ strategic partner, Alliance Environmental, LLC, serves as the Green Team Leader for this progressive project being undertaken by The Durst Organization, one of America’s most prominent environmentally responsible developers. The Carvel Property Development is a complex project entailing the redevelopment and conservation of a 2,200 acre site in Dutchess County. Alliance’s work involves directing and coordinating all sustainability attributes, which include:

Ecology

Ecology

Focus is on the natural feature of the existing site and identifying best management practices for the existing land consistent with the long term objectives of the development. BMP’s include: enhancement of natural resource structures and functions; protection of species/habitats of special concern; mowing practices to preserve site view sheds and enhanced biodiversity; invasive species and overpopulation controls; soil protection.

Water

Water

Focus is on profiling current water usage along with wastewater and stormwater management practices, including identifying water and wastewater quantity and quality issues; identify improvements to conserve water resources and water quality; reduce infiltration and inflow; conduct future treatment system evaluations.

Materials

Materials

Focus is on the materials used in the largest quantities and those that pose the most significant environmental risk: manage golf courses organically; increase landfill diversion; maximize resource recovery; reduce distance that materials are transported; select materials with the highest recycled content; reduce use of hazardous substances.

Energy

Energy

Focus is on energy conservation measures and improvements to existing structures: evaluate energy conservation measures and implement improvements; evaluate renewable energy alternatives evaluation; conduct potential evaluation of green house gas emission offset opportunities.
