Urban Infill and Retrofit
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that more than $335 billion is needed to upgrade aging or inadequate water infrastructure over the coming two decades, much of which is concentrated in urban areas. Today more than half of the world’s population, 3.3 billion people, live in urban centers and this number is expected to swell to nearly 5 billion by 2030. A growing number of U.S. cities have embraced the need to reduce the demand for fresh water, refurbish or replace aging water and wastewater infrastructure, cope with growing waste and pollution loads on overtaxed treatment systems, manage stormwater runoff, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. NSU designs solutions that meet the need for water- and cost-efficiency that integrate with and augment conventional water supply systems.
